Here goes the disclaimer – I am ferociously biased in favour of this music.

Thanks to Monsieur Tiersen, I believe that gold has been struck. Mainly because of the mood a good soundtrack can create. At the time I first listened to Amélie, I was going through a lot of soundtracks. When I picked up the soundtrack for a proper listen, I had not seen the film (I have yet to rectify this).

I hadn’t given it a full listen though, definitely not the one it deserved. What a city Paris is!Īt the time, I believe I was vaguely familiar with the soundtrack to Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain. Besides that, the little peculiarities of the place – the small markets selling second hand books, the buskers, and yes the beggars as well. And not just the usual suspects – the Tour Eiffel, the Arc de Triomphe, the Notre Dame Cathedral. Just writing this brings back a flood of memories, mostly romanticized perhaps, but very vivid indeed.

I’m thrilled to say that I’ve been to Paris before. Yann Tiersen – ‘Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain’ Soundtrack If it's a crime, then I'm guilty, guilty of loving you. The use of authentic Parisian sceneries and some panoramic city shots created an overwhelmingly absurd ambiance that I simply fell in love with.Review Summary: Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong, loving you dear like I do. Last but not least, the cinematography was superb and simply hypnotic. Mathieu Kazzovitz was also a delight to witness, as well as the rest of this highly talented cast. Her portrayal of the weird and highly imaginative Amélie is pure perfection. Each member did not only impersonate but truly embodied his character to a point where they all merged as one. The cast was perfectly chosen, to say the least. They were all important and well-needed additions to the storyline. Just as the story, the characters were quite diverse, complex and pluriform. Moreover, as the storyline progresses, you’d find yourself strangely enchanted by the protagonist’s peculiar kind of charisma and quirkiness.

Jeunet’s reimagination of Paris as an idyllic haven for lovers filled with romance at each corner and alley is in a way charming and utterly welcoming.Īlongside these two themes, many more were also explored such as love and courage. Plus, it’s worth mentioning Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s own version of Paris. But what most of the viewers missed to see is that in fact she surrounds herself with fellow weirdos who move to the beat of their own drum! Amélie (the lead character) is already known to be slightly weird and living in a world of her own. The most dominant theme was, obviously, that of Isolation, you wouldn’t think it possible to be isolated in a city of over 2 million people, right? In fact, almost all of the characters in Amélie radiate some sort of loneliness at the beginning and throughout the entire film. The film explores multiple themes simultaneously. The story is, undeniably, both multifaceted and multidimensional. Her quest to spread joy leads her on a journey where she finds true love.Īmélie is first and foremost an artistically well-made motion picture that has proved over the decades that being weird and quirky is not necessarily a bad thing.

The movie centers around Amélie, a young waitress who decides to help people find happiness in her own weird and creative manner. Amélie (also known as Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain) offers a genuinely lyrical escape from the burdens of ordinary life either with its incomparable cinematography or its peculiar yet charming personas.
